Psalm 62:8: Trust in him at all times, people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

I didn’t realize I was holding a piece of myself back from God.
I had been harboring a desire, a fear, a longing that I felt simply wasn’t mine to claim. It felt selfish or perhaps like something I was meant to sacrifice.
So I kept it tucked away in a walled off corner of my heart.
Until I didn’t.
One night I let it out and whispered it to God.
And suddenly it didn’t seem selfish, but honest. It didn’t seem like something I was meant to give up, but something I was meant to give to my Savior.
Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in him at all times, people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”
I think we all have desires and longings we try to push down, contain, or conceal. We may tell ourselves:
This is too small for God to worry about.
I already have so much, it would be selfish to ask for more.
I don’t deserve this anyway, so I’ll pretend I don’t really care.
Except God already knows our desires. The only thing we risk by keeping them to ourselves is distance between our loving God and our longing hearts.
Friend, when I finally poured my heart out to God, He met me with sweet grace. I felt free and unburdened. That’s not to say He will necessarily fulfill my desire; He will do what is best for me.
Do you, too, harbor a hidden dream? A long-unmet longing? I invite you to join me in pouring out our hearts to God. No matter the answer, we’ll feel closer to Him. Open up that little piece of your soul to our loving, limitless God, and allow Him to grant your yearnings refuge in His tender grace.
Until next time,
Shelby
