I Can’t. Jesus Can.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me” (Philippians 4:13).

There is a much quoted verse in the Bible.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me” (Philippians 4:13).

But this is not a holy pep talk, a proclamation of self-sufficiency, or the guarantee of dreams become reality.

No—it is a lifeline of truth for the one in the trenches.

Are you in the trenches today, my friend?  Me, too.  I’m right there with you thinking, “I simply can’t.”

  • I can’t find it in my heart to forgive.  It hurts too much.
  • I can’t find the peace in this storm.
  • I can’t figure out how to love and care for the one who needs me when I’m exhausted myself.
  • I simply can’t.

And you know what?  You may very well be right.  You can’t.  And it’s OKAY.

Because Jesus can.  And with the Holy Spirit empowering us, Jesus gives us His strength so that beyond all reason, in spite of our frail humanity, through Himwe can.

Not of our own power.  Not of our own will.  But through the precious gift of of Jesus, poured out on us daily like manna.

So take a breath.  Let your small, simple soul fall into the arms of Jesus.  Ask Him for His strength to get you through today. Then ask again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next.

I’m not saying it will be easy, but soon you will realize that indeed, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Until next time,

Shelby
