Advent 2024
“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word” (Psalm 119:114).

We look for hope in so many places. Our health. Our finances. We look to important relationships, the government, and even ourselves. The list is endless.
But the author of Psalm 119 identified his source of hope as the Word of God.
This may seem a strange anchor for hope, but the purpose of God’s Word was and is to reveal His true nature to us. The psalmist, then, was basing his hope on the revelation of the identify and character of God.
Dear one, let us remember this advent season that Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of God’s revelation to humanity. In John chapter 1 we read, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Then John declares, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
That very first Christmas, Jesus took on flesh and came to live among us so that people could see firsthand the true character of God. He came to give Himself as a sacrifice on a Roman cross to forgive the sins of any who believed in His true nature and His ultimate authority.
Jesus came, friend, to offer us hope.
So as Christmas approaches, will you join me in turning your eyes toward Jesus, God’s Word made flesh. And let our hearts declare with the psalmist, “I hope in your Word.”
Until next time,
Shelby
