Part 1/3

Job 26:14: Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand? (ESV)
Sometimes, the world seems rather overwhelming to me. All of its problems, and turmoils, and disappointments loom large in my mind. But great as they seem, they cannot help but shrink and recede when I consider the greatness of God.
My small, simple soul rejoices that I have a loving limitless God—a God bigger than my fear, bigger than my heartaches, bigger than my sin.
In her book Simply Tuesday, Emily P. Freeman frames the way I feel quite perfectly. She speaks of the small feeling we get when we stand at the edge of the endlessly rhythmic ocean or cast our gaze upon the stars thrown across the expansive night sky.
This is the smallness I feel in the presence of my loving, limitless Father. It is not a small of insignificance or lack of worth. It is a small born of awe and overwhelm. An awe of worship.
Let us explore together, for the next few weeks, the greatness of God. And may it inspire our small, simple souls to offer up praise in His honor and put the troubles of the world back in their place.
Father, turn our hearts toward you in all your majesty. Let our small, often weary souls shelter in your mighty presence and offer you praise. We are so thankful that your power is bigger than our fears, your love wider than our heartaches, and your grace and mercy offered through Christ Jesus greater than all of our sins. —Amen
Until next time,
Shelby
