The Greatness of God (part 3)

Part 3/3

Job 11:7-8  Can you find out the deep things of God?  Can you find out the limit of the Almighty?  It is higher than heaven—what can you do?

I joyfully place my small, simple soul in the hands of my loving, limitless God.  But what does it mean when I refer to God as limitless?

It means that God is all that I am not!  I can trust that His ways are higher than my ways, and His thoughts are higher than my thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).  I can trust that where I fall short, He forever stands firm.  He is sovereign, holy, and worthy to be praised.

I am comforted in knowing God’s divine nature:

  • My eyes are limited to human sight, to the here and now.  God’s sight is limitless.  All of creation is exposed to him (Hebrews 4:13).
  • Man has imperfect judgment, unable to discern matters hidden in the heart.  God is perfectly just, not limited by such constraints.  He looks freely on the heart of man (1 Samuel 16:7).
  • My understanding is partial and incomplete.  God is omniscient—limitless in understanding; He knows all things (1 John 3:20).
  • I am limited in power; there are circumstances beyond my control.  God is omnipotent—unlimited in power—and nothing is impossible for Him (Jeremiah 32:27, Matthew 19:26).
  • My love is imperfect, influenced by emotions and injured by hurt. God’s love is boundless, perfect, and never-failing.  Nothing can separate us from His love once we are His own (Rom. 8:35, 37-39).
  • My sin is great.  God’s grace is greater.  He sent His son, Jesus, to live the perfect life I could not live, die the death I should have died, and pay the price of my sin.

Yes, God’s limitlessness is a comfort to my soul.  His infinite nature gives me hope as my small, simple soul journeys through this finite world, dreaming of eternity in His presence.

Let His name be praised.

Father, how glorious is your limitless nature to us!  Our minds cannot fathom nor our hearts imagine how great is your glory, your righteousness, your holiness.  Thank you for making a ways for us to be reconciled to you through the finished work of Jesus Christ.  Thank you for grace greater than all of our sin.    —Amen

Until next time,

Shelby
