You are Seen by God

Genesis 16:13:  So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

Today I felt seen.

It took being vulnerable first.  Some days ago I had tentatively shared an admission, a deep hurt, a little snapshot of an overwhelming realization.

When I saw the woman in whom I confided again today, she told me she had been thinking about what I said.  I cautiously provided some carefully curated details to flesh out the admission.

And then she spoke words into the hurt that I thought I had packed away so well.  She simply said, “That must be a heavy weight to carry.”

And right then I realized it still hurt.  And it was heavy.  But somehow it also felt lighter and less painful.  Because this woman saw me, and said so.

Friend, our God is a God who sees us.  The Bible highlights that truth in Genesis 16:13. Hagar had fled into the desert, and the Angel of the Lord found her there.  “So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

When we belong to Jesus, we can rest secure in knowing that our burdens and sorrows are not hidden from Him.  We are not hidden.

So if your small, simple soul is feeling the wrong kind of small today—not small and safe, but the kind of small that just might slip through the cracks—let His truth sink in.

You are seen.

Until next time,

Shelby

After reading your words in First5 today (12-12-23), I went to your blog. I am treasuring your nuggets of gold that a few well chosen can be used to help someone know I care and God cares. We read through the Bible and often don’t take hold of simple yet profound Truth of how God sees us. Hagar was such a good example.
Thank you for your blog and sharing God’s love for us in more ways than we hold on to in our day to day lives.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! God is so good—I truly want my words to be an act of worship toward Him for all He has done for me!
