“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. . .” Ephesians 3:20

In a world that tells us to be bigger, bolder, and flashier, the ideas of “small” and “simple” may seem outdated and irrelevant. But I take joy in being a “small, simple soul.”
Part of it is the way I am wired by God. As an introvert, I gravitate toward simple over extravagant and quiet over clamor.
But there’s more. In fact, I believe there is a secret to being truly comfortable in your identity as a small, simple soul.
And that secret is having a loving, limitless God.
Sometimes I think we—as the quiet ones—struggle against our natures. We wonder if what we do matters and if our small souls can actually impact this big and boisterous world. But you see, it’s not about us.
In Ephesians 3:20 Paul offers up praise “to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”
Oh, friend—that’s our God!
No matter how God made us, if we have submitted our lives to Jesus, HIS power is working within us! We don’t need to worry about what we “can’t” do, because we have a God who CAN!
He can take our ordinary, everyday lives and use them in ways we can’t even imagine! He can take our quiet words and touch a heart we didn’t know was listening. He can transform a simple act of service into a soul-strengthening blessing to the one being served. He can turn humble living into a holy adventure.
So if you are struggling with your identity as a “small, simple soul,” join me in surrendering our identities to our loving, limitless God. Tell Him your worries, but then invite Him to work in your life to “do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
Until next time,
Shelby
