1 Corinthians 1:19: For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

I am a fixer.
If one of my sons needs to move, I’m online checking out apartments and local listings. If someone I love is facing a medical diagnosis, I’m looking into both medical specialists and natural treatments because I want them well.
I have been convicted lately that my desire to fix is a manifestation of a need to control. A need to make sure the story being written has the happy ending I think it deserves.
I have also been reminded that these stories are not mine to write.
A church leader said, “It’s about God’s story, not my story. I get to participate in HIS story . . .we are allowed to share in a slice of the responsibility.”
God has a plan in mind greater than what our minds can conceive. He is relentlessly pursuing the spiritual good and growth of those who love Him. And when we think we know best, 1 Corinthians 1:19 reminds us, “For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’”
If your small, simple soul struggling today to control something bigger than you can handle? I invite you to let go of your worldly wisdom and release your struggle to our loving, limitless God. He may well invite you to “share in a slice of the responsibility,” but ultimately the story is His.
And—spoiler alert—He writes the best endings of all. We may not get a story-book ending we would write, but His eternal plan is for our spiritual good. And that is so, so good.
Until next time,
Shelby
