Yearning to Belong

Jeremiah 30:22:  “And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

Yearning to belong.  It is a feeling I have lived with most of my life.  Never quite fitting in, never quite finding “my people.”

Like me, do you sometimes find yourself wondering is anyone truly knows you and “gets” you?

As humans created in the image of God, we long for connection and belonging.  We long for our true identities and to feel accepted and valued for who we truly are. More than just a desire for human connection, though, that longing is a longing for God.

Jeremiah 30:22 echoes a sentiment declared by God from Genesis to Revelation. “And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

God first promised these words as He established His covenant with Abram and changed his name to Abraham.  Through Jesus we see a new fulfillment of this promise as we are reminded, “Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people” (1Peter 2:10a).  And in Revelation we see the promise come to completion in Heaven where “the dwelling place of God is with man.  He will dwell with them, and they will be His people” (Revelation 21:3).

What a precious promise!

You and I, once we have placed our faith in Jesus—we are GOD’S!  He pursues us, loves us, cherishes us, chooses us, and longs to be our God!  We become His people.

He is our God, and we are His!

So if you are feeling alone today, or if you just want to feel truly SEEN, spend a little time in the arms of your Father.  He is your God, and you are His.

Until next time,

Shelby
